In 2025, I was featured in The Bookseller for launching a press model that doesn’t play by the industry’s outdated rules. The article spotlighted my work at OwlCrate Press—where we pay above-market rates, cut the gatekeeping, and prioritize author support over clout. But we didn’t set out to "disrupt publishing". I just refused to replicate its worst habits.
BookRiot spotlighted my work at OwlCrate Press for doing what most publishers won’t: breaking the rules out loud. They called out our “ethical publishing model,” praised our refusal to demand agented submissions, and flagged us as one to watch as we actively "dismantle outdated systems". We don't ask authors to sell their souls—or their books. Instead we hand them the damn pen.
I appreciate the punchy quotes, but we're not doing anything groundbreaking by treating people well?
